A recent Globe and Mail editorial compared how climate change is projected to affect Australia and Canada.
The article states that changes will hit Australia especially hard. Droughts, fires, and hotter temperatures – three things Australia already has in abundance – will become even more commonplace over the next 20 years.
Canada will face its own climate related issues. However, we're anticipated to be one of the few countries that'll see a net benefit from global warming, with Canada becoming a centre of subsistence agriculture. Being Canadian will become so desirable that we may see our population swell to 100 million by 2040.
The world is currently full of uncertainty – perhaps more so than during any other time in my life. We all can and should do better but despite our many challenges, I feel extremely fortunate to call Canada my home. Stay safe this summer and remember to be kind to one another.
